Traditional, home-made sausages Can Dorca

The Can Dorca Shop

Visit the Can Dorca shop at Hostalnou de Bianya and enter into the past. There’s still an old counter for serving clients, a small bar and an area for selling meat and our own traditionally-made sausages.

Before the Civil War, Pere Dorca Callís worked as a baker, although the property deeds of the building date back to 1929.

In 2013 the Can Dorca shop was recognised as a historical establishment by the Girona Chamber of Commerce.

Three Generations with 80 Years of History

The business took a turn in a different direction with the entry of Miquel Dorca Espuña, the founder’s nephew, and his wife Pepeta Masoliver. They initially rented the property, but were not long in buying it. They lost no time in adding sausage production to their bakery business.

Concepció and Mercè, the daughters of the couple worked at the shop. In 2004, with the death of Miquel, the business was passed down to his grandson, Josep Maria Peracaula, Mercè’s son.

Can Dorca Traditional Sausages

Our own slaughterhouse and production facilities for traditional pork products in La Vall de Bianya de la Garrotxa.

Miquel Dorca Espuña and his wife, Josefa Coromina, (La Pepeta, as she was known), settled down in Hostalnou de Vall de Bianya el 1948. The couple were well-experienced in raising pigs and making meat products.

In 1949, they obtained permission to open a sausage factory and a slaughterhouse. The two daughters, Concepció and Mercè, learned how to work in all areas of the company and were later responsible for modernising the establishment.

In 1996, Miquel Dorca founded the limited company ‘Miquel Dorca SL’, which on his death in 2004, was left to his grandson, Josep Maria Peracaula Dorca, who continued with the family business.

Pigs are slaughtered once a week at their traditional slaughterhouse, which is one of the few operating in Catalonia. They operate a closed cycle, verifying each stage in the process, until labelling.

Can Dorca sells its meat products at its shop, although its highly-valued products are also distributed to other shops in the county as well as to the cities of Girona and Barcelona.
